It's that time again to get ready for school! Emma is starting 1st grade and I've applied to become a substitute teacher at her school (county) on top of volunteering to tutor math and PTO. We've just gotten done making our Back-To-School bags for the teachers, all 34 of them. We hand painted the apple from our School Collab kit then stuck a few school supplies we've gotten inexpensively thru all the sales going on and added a cute card.

Any one of these items matched with the cute phrase would make wonderful appreciation gifts for your child's teacher! Feel free to grab the idea and run with it.

I've also made a few items this week at Vistaprint.com with their Back $2 School Basics sale. Tote bags, t-shirt, notebooks and magnets were ordered for very little cost. Some will be used as teacher appreciation gifts others we'll use as BTFE prizes. Below are the two graphics I used most.

And last but never least I've discovered a wonderful internet based company, that just happens to be local, called Spoonflower.com. They custom print fabric with any digital image you have. I've been entereing their weekly fabric contests but have future plans to make a cheater quilt using scanned in artwork from my daughter... it's going to be awesome! I can also see heirloom photos turning into quilts, pillows or clothes. Make the perfect pattern for drapes in your living room that will EXACTLY match hwat you already have in decor. To me the possibilities are endless and I keep thinking up more. What about scraping a skirt design covered with your cuties? Anywho, check out Spoonflower for yourself! Oscars!

That's the theme for IC-9! Move stars, glamor, films, etc.
For my submission I combined my digi skills with some volunteer work... it's the template for a project we'll be doing (I hope) for teacher appreciation week at Emma's school. This is the hallway to the teacher's lounge. I had tried to explain what I was thinking about and the comittee just didn't get it, so created this lovely image for them. I made my elements in Photoshop for some and other I grabbed from my Tickets Please kit.

National Teacher Appreciation Day is May 3rd, or week May 2-6. Have you planned anything for your child's teacher/school yet? Any ideas running through your head that we could use? We just found out that we have to add an extra day for ours as the staff luncheon that was supposed to be on Friday has been moved to a different date. Help with ideas would be grand!

*World Teacher's Day is Oct 5th. Which works out well to do two appreciation activities each year one in the fall and one in the spring!

Hometown Love!

I sadly missed a week of Iron Craft because the real world got away from me somehow and I had to catch up. Whew!

Now, this week's Iron Craft challenge is Hometown! My hometown is Rohnert Park, California in the middle of the beautiful wine country! Emers & I will be visiting there this spring (So excited -Thanks Daddoo!) I realised I don't have too many photos of good old RP so I just made a tribute scrapbook page rather than filling it with actual photos of my life... they're mostly still at mom & Daddoo's house. I recreated the old RP welcome sign and photo copied the map, along with some photos offline. Add some cardstock & glue, and viola! Ah, memories.

Here's a quick munchkin catch up. In her Blue Fairy dance outfit (Yes, she wears this almost every week to dance practice.)

And here she is goofing off on the slide at the park last week.

That Winter Feeling

The week 6 challenge for Iron Craft was a "Winter" theme. I decided to try out some fun Christmas ice candles I saw on DollarStoreCrafts.com but with a winter spin to them.

First, I made the ice candle using crushed ice, a candle taper, a few blue crayons and 1/2 lb of parafin.

Next, for the decorations! I took another 1/4 lb of parafin an after melting it I beat it to a froth with my electric mixer. Spooned it on and stuck in some decorations.

I made two using some pieces off a christmas garland, a couple of white glitter ornament balls and a few plastic scatter flakes.

I think they turned out pretty well for my first try. I can't wait to see how the light flickering through the ice candle will look!

I wonder if I threw some gree crayons into the parafin before I beat it if it would look like grass? Then I could make some spring candles!

Getting Crafty for Valentines

Well, I joined in on the Iron Craft this week! Don't know what it is? It's a weekly craft challenge that is full of fun and inspiration!

This week, #5, the challenge was "Be Mine" to make a Valentine. So I headed to the Dollar Tree and Target Dollar Spot to get some supplies. I ended up finding some cute small mailboxes at Target and I used one of those for this craft. I then decoupaged some newspaper strips and shapes on. Did some painting with acrylic & nail polish (for a translucent effect). Finally I printed out some words on the computer and decoupaged them on as well. I think I need to still add some embellishments but I'm happy with how it turned out.

See that side below the bubble wand needs something and I think I need to add a 3-d key onto the end.

Next, here are Emma's nails that we painted for valentine's day. I snapped this shot on my phone this morning so the detail isn't the best. But we did a layer of red, a layer of iridecent sparkles and the white hearts. Too cute!

I've bought all my supplies for making the candy cane heart pops next week, but I was unable to find a cheap supply of the 6 in rulers so we've switched Emma's Valentines to these cute and affodable bubbles by Care at Dollar Store Crafts.

Now, for some Emma catch up time!

We had a wonderful Halloween! Emma was Perry the Playtpus from Disney's Phineas & Ferb, which means mommy got to dress up as Phineas:

Next here's a shot of Emma in the skirt I made her for Halloween, it has candy corn on it. She's in our back yard playing in the fall leaves.

Now on to her 6th birthday!

First off here's the balloon wreath I made for our front door. We've packed him up to pull out for future birthdays.

You could probably guess we had a Phineas & Ferb birthday party as well. First up is the lawn gnome Perry we made for the Ring-Around the Perry game.

I'm now in love with Marshmello fondant as it's smooth and easy to use like regular fondant, only it actually tastes good!

And here's an extra special treat for you. I saw this in a magazine a year or so ago and thought it was brilliant! It's a form letter to send to school with your child. Print several out to have on hand for those last minute notes in the morning before school. I've used it a few times myself with Emma's teacher so far this school year and she loves how easy it is to figure out what I'm writing her about. Signs of Easter

Did you get to wave a palm frond at chruch this monring? Today is Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week and Jesus' journey to the cross and resurection. Ours started with the story of Holy Week in Sunday school with the ressurection eggs (I teach the K-5 class). Then we had the procession of palms intot the sanctuary and lots of hymns and singing by the various adult and youth choirs. Wonderful start on the road to our salvation through Christ Jesus.

To celebrate this journey I made a scrapbook kit called the Signs of Easter. I used some of the common and not so common signs and symbols of the week that we've been discussing and seeing in church as we've gone through the season of Lent in preperation for this.

Hi again! (Update!) & Open Type Fonts

Okay, you may or may not remember that I'm in my last session to get my degree... and well it's kicking my butt. My "single" assignment this week had 4 parts... each broken down into about 6 more subparts. Sounds like fun right? It was like all the hard work we did last class (you know over 5 weeks) had to be done in one week this session. Whew, it's been rough. This last class is putting together our portfolio so we can then go out and find a job, yay! Also Lent began this past week so there's been extra services and we had an accident at church on Friday and so I got to go to the hospital with one of our seniors. Yippee, I love emergency rooms! I'm still teaching Sunday school and was volunteered for another session. We're gearing up for VBS as well, so meeting are going on every which way I turn. Let's see.... hubby got taken off day shift and put back onto rotating. We've had snow. Emma knocked out one of her baby teeth, then managed to wash it down the drain. I'm still competing in the Biggest Moo-ser contest at Chick-fil-a and even was the week's biggest for losing 9 lbs this past week. The treadmill running/walking in this house is going fairly consistently. We're all running at least 3 days a week if not more. Yes, even Emma gets on it for a few minutes (between 3-10) and walks for a bit, cause she thinks it's fun. I think that's about it.

I did manage to get a mini kit into the shop last month. My contribution to the team MK When in Rome. It looks gorgeous!

Open Type Fonts: Facts, Tips & Praise.

Okay, we;ll start with the story. I found the exact font I wanted for a school design project and it was CU for only $20- awesome right? Well I grabbed it in OTF (Open Type Font) form as that's all they had, but seriously it works on PC or MAC so why not right? And I installed it and went to work in Potoshop. But what? That's not what it looked like when I in my sample! That's the alt font! Did I get the wrong one? What happened?

I wrote the company and it seems in the Adobe Products CS3/4 you can do very cool things with OTFs. It seems this one font I got for $20 had over 3000 characters!!! There's like 10 different letter A's to choose from. How awesome is that? PS offers some flexibility but Illustrator and Dreamweaver really offer up the tools to use these OTF to their fullest. Also you can change the language with a click of a mouse in OTF- how cool is that?

Anywho after researching and figuring this all out with some help I wondered why we didn't cover this in my design class? And why don't more people know about this. It's a wonderful tool that I'm sure most of us don't know about. I mean most don't even mess with their leading or kerning let alone choose the perfect character for each spot in a piece. Does it need flourishes? Swashes? What kind of ligatures can I add? To find out about all the cool things OTF can do in the Adboe family you can go HERE.

I hope this has opened your eyes to some of the col possibilities that are open to us typographically with OTFs, I know it has mine! So look for those fonts with OTF suffixes and pay careful to what the character count is. You could get a deal for $20 or less, like me!

It's a new year & a new start...

Welcome to 2010! Sorry I've not been around but last month was crazy! A trip out to California to visit my family, Christmas, a visit from my In Laws, New Years... Whew! Now I'm in the final stretch of school, just two more classes then, hopefully, in March I'll be done. So not only are the classes super hard right now but I'm also working on getting my resume together but trying to figure out day care options for the munchkin this summer and if I'm lucky find a JOB! Oh and did I mention scrapping? Cause I'm close to closing up a few projects I've been working of forever it seems. Well, new Mixed Nuts will be here on the 1st of Feb if nothing else and I'm also working on a new set of templates for Summer! (Yes, it's taken me that long to get things planned out and completed.) So keep your eyes peeled for those goodies!

On a totally different note I made some great purchases at our local Hallmark store today! They have all their Fall & Winter holiday goodies on sale for 70% off (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years) OR you can fill a gift bag for $10, whichever is the better deal. So, what did I do? I jam packed that little bag with a ton of stuff! 8 Hallmark Keepsakes ornaments, 4 sets of 6 make your own Christmas cards & 2 chocolate turkeys. Grand total was $130 retail, at 70% off it'd have been $39 but I only paid $10!! Yes, that's 92.3% off! Whoo-hoo! They also had a ton of paper plates and napkins I contemplated getting but the rectangular boxes of the ornaments and the flatness of the card packs helped me really pack that bag up better, the lady had difficulty getting them out to scan them out of inventory- LOL! Sorry, just had to brag about my retail success, hubby just sighed and was thankful it only cost $10. I mean I got a $10 Keepsake ornament for 80 cents!!!! MEN! They sometimes just don't get it.

Okay, enough from the peanut gallery. Hubby and I got each other a treadmill for our Christmas present this year. It's supposed to get here in the next week or so (It was on back order.) To help me get motivated to utilizing this machine I've enrolled in our Chick-fil-a Biggest Moo-ser challenge. Yep, just like those boys on the Grey Team from back home, I'm going to attempt to shed a few pounds and get into better shape. I'm just glad Chick-fil-a added that new strawberry yogurt parfait to the menu so I may actually get through this thing.

I hope you all enjoyed the Blog Train! I know we had some people drop out due to sickness, computer problems etc, but that was still one GIANT kit!! Whew, I'm still going through it all. I've been so busy lately! School ended last night (as in 2 hours ago) for Winter Break. So Emma and I, no hubby, will be headed out west to visit my folks, family & friends. Yay!- cross country trip with a 5 y/o and lots of packing. Can I get a "Yipee!!"? But seriously, I miss everyone and this trip is shaping up to be a ton of fun! Lots of fun scheduled ahead.

At church this Advent we've been exploring the Advent Conspiracy. And I've got to tell you, each week I get more excited about trying to take part. I'm going to start small this year as we're starting late, but hubby and I hope that by next Christmas we'll be living the dream.

Woo-hoo! We had a blast at the kingdom that is magical! Whew, were my feet kiling me once we got back! I have a few photos for y'all to see. Also my school design program just upgraded us to Adobe Deisgn Suite CS4!!! That's awesome but now I have to find where everything is again. Sigh. More learning... but at least the upgrade was FREE! I love the new features in Illustrator, and i haven't had a chance to really look at Photo Shop yet. We're learning Flash right now, so maybe I'll have a new blinkie soon!

Hey there everyone! Long time no see! We've been super busy at my house. I finished another session of school. We had Emma's school festival. And now we're getting ready for the Disney trip. Whew! Will it ever slow down?

Where has the time gone?

The time since Emma started back at preschool seems to be flying by. I don't know if it's because my classes are getting harder, that she's doing more activities (Dance, piano, swimming & choir), that I'm volunteering more or what, but I never seem to have enough time anymore. This week alone Friday is the only morning when I don't have some kind of meeting or appt. That's my scrapping time! All gone this week, sigh. I've also been sick and my doctor is adjusting my meds and we haven't gotten that right yet, but I have another appt with her next week (Yes, another scrapping morning gone) and hopefully that'll be taken care of. Fall Family night at Emma's school is two weeks away so we're gearing up for that, Homecoming at church is next month and our Disney trip is also next month. Whew! So much to do so little time. I'm trying to finish up my fall/halloween goodies for everyone and the shop but I just never seem to get things done. Well I'll be back to chat again next week but someone says she needs help doing her homework. She's having problems writting the number 5 today, but she's done very well with 1-4 so far.

Okay campers! I'm running late today but I spent the morning at the car dealership waiting for them to fix the seat belt in my minivan. Anywho we had a fabulous visit with our relatives, Katelynn even spent the night and that was super fun for both the girls! I didn't take too many photos for some reason but I'll upload them later this week and show y'all what I did grab.

... like you're going insane? This week is just so super busy and I don't know why. this morning while Emma was at camp rather than spend the time doing homework I ran around doing errands that needed doing but took the whole 3 hours. And my Mother In Law is due to get here Sunday and i haven't finished homework, let alone cleaned up my wreck of a house. Sigh. All I want tot do is take a small time out but I'm doing homework, cleaning, cooking, designing, running errands, trying to plan a vacation for Oct, etc. Eek! I think I may meet myself going sometime soon. talk to you all soon I hope!

Mind you Emma and I did take the time to go get mommy & daughter manicures yesterday. She has these cute little daisies painted onto her thumbs! And no I didn't bring the camera, I forgot. Sigh. Maybe we'll take her and her cousin next week and I'll snap some photos, she's sure to have picked the polish off by then.

VBS is over!

Whew, what a hectic week. But VBS is now officially over. Don't get me wrong I had a blast but it was draining. But the kids loved it and learned a lot, which is the point. We did the Crocodile Dock VBS program and it was a challenge to decorate but we figured it all out in the end. I think I made 20 fake cat tails and about 30 yards of fake Spanish moss for us to decorate with. I have a couple of photos of the finale where ths kids sung and danced and hopefully I'll have more of my crafts later for y'all to see.

I'm also working on a new kit, don't know if it'll be a freebie or for sale yet- we'll see how it turns out I guess. Plus I'm trying to organize a charity kit or grab bag for Emma's little buddy who has to have a series surgeries. She's the happiest and bravest little princess I've ever met. But more on those later.
Oh and in case you were wondering I'm taking web design right now for school. It's kind-of fun but super hectic since they try to cram it into a 5 week session.

Hi there everybody! Whew, this week is going to go by fast! I started back to school, this session is web design- Yay? But VBS starts on the 14th and I didn't get everything done last week (Fell into a book and couldn't find my way out.) so, I'll be super busy this week. The Emster is in Dino-Tyke camp this week so hopefully I'll have some photos to share with you on that soon!

I'm finishing up a CU floral pack of pretty flowers & leaves that Emma and I have grown in our garden over the past year or so, just took some great shots of the sunflowers, and it'll be in my Nuthouse shop on Sunday but here is a sneak peek CU freebie for y'all! This one came off the bush in our front yard! (It's only had two blooms so far this year and both are in the pack- LOL!)

I'm back.... but on vacation!

Hi everyone. Ugh, I was so sick last week. Still lingering a bit but whew was it bad. Emma Lee and hubby are all better but I'm still the one with a head cold and respiratory infection. But I have good drugs mow and am at least functional. One of my wonderful adopted family members took Emma Lee for a few hours yesterday so I did get my homework done and am now on vacation. Which means I get to put together the 4 crafts for VBS into separate ziploc baggies for 150 ids. That's 600 baggies worth of crafts I need to prep and bag. Eek! So I may not be on here too much this week either.

Hi there everyone! Today (well, in 30 minutes) I hit the big 30! That's right it's my birthday once again! To celebrate I made you all a little goodie. Paper Holiday Pack!

What I really did was expand on those I had made for Emma's class scrapbook and turned it into a full pack for you all to enjoy! I was frustrated when making the scrapbook that spanned a school year that I couldn't find element packs that did the same. As this was a book for preschoolers I figured the pieced together construction paper look would be fitting. I tried to make a variety of elements that would let a person scrap an entire year if they wanted without having to spend a fortune buying different packs. These will only be up for today, my birthday. Tomorrow they'll be going into the shop for the Hot Nuts sale at the Nuthouse! Enjoy!

Well, it's crunch time again. The end of the school year is almost here! I need to get those teacher appreciation books finished and off to print ASAP- eek! Also VBS is the second week of June and I'm in charge of crafts... for 150 kids!!!!

I'm running a bit behind schedule. My FIL was here last week and we now have lovely hardwood floors and new carpet on the steps (to replace the paint covered carpet). But while we were doing the floors I had no internet. Sigh. Or design programs for that matter. So now I'm scrambling to get my grab bag finished for NSD this weekend and starting my new class for school, Advanced Graphic Design. Busy, busy girl that I am. We're also getting ready for VBS, I'm in charge of crafts again this year.

An Easter treat! (A little late)

Okay, so I promised you a treat I'm just a little late in delivering it. I'm learning Adobe Illustrator and it's hard. Mostly because I'm used to Raster based PS but also because I know that it can do some awesome things if I could just figure out how!!!! It's taking me forever to figure out how to do what I want to do with it. Bah!

Enough of that. I have a goodie for you a couple of days late but even better The Nuthouse is putting out a CT call. What does this mean? You'd have an entire shop at your disposal... for free! All you'd have to do is what we all love doing anyway, make LOs and talk about scrapping! Woo-hoo!

Had a very moving evening at church tonight for our Maundy Thursday service. It was simple yet so profound. We discussed the beginning of Passover and how they gathered around a table together to share a meal with the Lord, just as we do on Sundays as we celebrate communion. We also had the opportunity to have our feet wash and to wash others feet just as Jesus did on that night so long ago. A simple but humbling act of service to one another. Then we went sent quietly off to contemplate how When jesus left that night he knew he was going to die and rise again. But first came the passion, the suffering, that he bare so we could have forgiveness. Just so very moving and humbling, and makes me ever thankful for his service and sacrafice.

Super Busy Bee!

Hello everyone! Well last week was super busy for me. Has the Nuthouse Scraps Grand Opening (still on sale for 50% off!), Emma had her class Easter Party and finally class. This week is busy too. Emma is on her Spring Break but I'm still in school. My Daddoo is coming out for a visit! (Long way to come for Grandparent babysitting. LOL!) And I'm still in school only this is my first week working with Illustrator... should be fun. Anywho I've got nothing for you personally but there's tons of goodies out there!

Hi all! Nothing really new this week. We're getting ready for the Grand Opening of Nuthouse-Scraps on the 1st of April. Still finding and working out all the bugs in the shop. I don't know if you all know my dear friend Mrs. Miles (aka Barb). If not you should take a chance to stop by her blog. It's filled with inspiring stories and some wonderful photos and scrapbooking. She has often been an inspiration to me over the past couple of years.
(Love you girl!)

Well last year she made me realize I could do something to change the life of one special child and so I'm now a sponsor through Compassion International for a cute little guy in Ethiopia. As you may know it takes a few months for our letters to go back and forth and to be translated. Well this weekend I got his thank you card for the Christmas gift we sent him. We gave him $30 for him to buy whatever he needed, he chose a mattress. A mattress. He wanted to have somewhere soft to sleep rather than on the floor, he shares it with his siblings.

We also bought a new mattress for Christmas and it cost a lot more than his did, it reminded me how very much we all have. All the wonderful blessings that seem to have been heaped upon us. Our country is going through some hard times right now but how many of us can at least claim to have a nice comfy soft place to sleep on? Enough food to eat? Shelter over our heads? Access to medical services? Just remember when times are looking a little bleak and you may be feeling those pennies being pinched how blessed you truly are.

And let's not forget those who are lacking so much in their lives. Do you have the $32 a month to spare to make a difference in a young child's life? Click HERE to take a look at all those in need. Can't afford a regular payment? Then click HERE to donate a couple of dollars to Compassion International's 12 general usage funds. Take a look at where the money goes and realize how far they make that $32 a month stretch for each child in their care.

Still want to make a difference but at no cost? Go to Free Rice and earn grains of rice from the sponsors to donate through United Nations World Food Program just by answering some trivia questions. We can all take part in stopping poverty.

Hi, I'm still alive!

As most of you know this is my first session of school for my bachelor's degree and I'm jazzed because it's finally classes where I get to doodle and design art. That being said it takes a lot more time for me to create art that I think worthy of turning in than in writing a paper where I'm just stating the facts. So I've been super busy creating, just not for scrapbooks. Sigh. I have some time off here in a couple of weeks and hopefully I can finish off a kit or two then for you all to see and possibly snag. Either way I miss and love you all very much!

There are crazy things going on in the scrap world but I'll fill you in on those later. I've been busy at church getting ready for our services today and I need to leave shortly to go donate blood so I'll be quick and just say that you all are wonderful and I love you.

Hello everyone! Isn't life wonderful? I've gotten my final grades for last session and I am now a college graduate. It's just an associate's degree and I've already started my bachelor's but still a good milestone to mark off. The new class looks fabulous for this session too!

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been MIA but it's my last week of school and if I actually pass my classes then I'll have my AABA! I start my BFA course work on Monday and well I've been dealing with finacial aid and all kinds of stuff this past week.

My Super Power

Just wanted to share with you all the cutest thing that happened last night, I wrote it down and want to share it with you all:

My Super Power

Tonight I got Emma ready for bed. We said our prayers, then our Sunday night ritual of thanking God for blessing us with so many friends and family whom we love. (This list is starting to get extremely long as Emma gets older.) After that I asked Emma if she was ready for bed. She responded with, "No mommy, I need to ask God to make me 'credible like you when I get big."

If you're like me, you wondered what being 'credible was, so I asked her what she meant. Emma informed me I have super powers like the Incredibles. We've watched that DVD so many times I can quote it, so I knew exactly who she meant. I was now curious, what is my super power? So with a little tickle I asked Emma if my super power was that I could fly. She told me to stop being so silly. I asked if I could control the weather. She gave me a look of disdain and rolled her eyes. After a moment she heaved a great big sigh, then turned on the bed and looked me square in the eye. "No mommy, your super power is your love."

With that she kissed me goodnight, rolled over and went to sleep. I crept out of her room a bit clumsily as I couldn't quite see clearly, darn those tears. My daughter thinks love, my love, is a super power. And she has made me see it truly is. My kisses can heal all boo-boos, my hugs are always warm and safe, just filled with comfort. In her eyes I can do anything and fix all problems.
I am a super hero armed with love.

I wonder how many of us are out there, seemingly unaware of our super abilities until someone shows us the way.

Busy week

For some reason my to do list for this week is so super long it isn't funny. So I have nothing new to report. the snow is gone and things are back to normal around here. the MMM goodies are now in the shop with their new previews and at full price.

Oh, but the Doodle Time doodle templates are now Commercial Use (If you bought the personal use ones for MMM you need to go back and get the CU ones at full price, sorry.) SO many people asked if they could use them as CU I just put them into the shop that way.
Um, let's see what else...
Manu-Scraps had a b-day sale that sadly ended yesterday (I'm such a bad CT) but she still has a CU font on her blog if you want to snag it for free.
Barb has a winter wreath frame on her blog.

Okay, I have two brief announcements then tons of snow photos. (I mean tons!)

First- I forgot to send in the change over from MMM goodies to regular shop items so if you missed them give me a couple of days and they'll be back in the shop at full price.

Second- I know you have all heard me rave about my buddy Shelley Munro, romance novelist extraordinaire. Well she now has two short stories posted on her website for you to read for free! I've read them both and they are fabulous! So head on over and check them out, you may just find a new author!

Woo-hoo! Snow baby!

Okay so we've been hoping for snow this winter since Emma is old enough to play in it and we can get photos ect. Well with days in the high fifties- sixties I thought it wouldn't happen. I was wrong! Now she just needs to wake up and eat breakfast so we can go play! I promise to be back tomorrow or the next day with photos for you all to see, especially Daddoo cause I know he wants to see his grand baby making a snowman. Last time it snowed, and stuck, here Emma was like 3 months old I want to say.

Oh and don't forget today is the last day for getting the MMM goodies for just 98 cents!

This past week has been a killer for me here, so thankfully it's a new week. I did get my house clean for the Tuesday church meeting but only be cause everyone showed up late- LOL! I was mopping the kitchen literally 5 minutes before people got here. It went over very well I think. And I didn't know you could pack 20 ladies into my living room- Wahahaha! Good thing we took down the Christmas tree or there wouldn't have been room. It was a good meeting overall.

Then on Wed and Thursday I caught the 24 hour bug that is going around here, hubby was nice enough to bring it home from work with him. Emma somehow missed out on getting it thankfully enough but now that she's back in school she has a cold again. Let's just hope it stays that way this time. I can't deal with pneumonia again.

Saturday was our chruch's wedding recption for our pastor and his new bride, they got married on New Year's eve but it was out of town so we threw them a little shindig. I opened my big fat mouth at circle and wound up making about 200 chocolate covered strawberries for it. After being sick mid week I didn't really have the time but I got so many compliments it was worth it. Four of the ladies from church have told me I'm their new best friend now, yay! All I can say is it was good that the store had them on sale this past week or it could have been expensive.

And now you're asking when did you get your homework or any scrapping done during all this, right? Well the homework got done at about 12:53 am last night and it's due 1 am (That's midnight central for me.). And well the scrapping not so much. Hopefully, I can package up the goodies for the MMM sale that starts on Thursday and my mean old boss will still accept them even if I'm a day (or two) after the deadline. I have some great goodies going in... I hope. But I already turned in 2 new things for it so yes, something new from me will be in my DBD shop on Thursday! (Shocking, I know.)

That's all I've got. No, photos or previews to share but stop back on Thursday and I'll have something for you all! Oh and Kim B. Does have her new CU grab bag up for $2! Help!

Okay, so maybe I need some help today. I'm supposed to be hosting my church circle at our house tomorrow. But it's a little messy. Okay, so I'm a pack rat (Thanks Daddoo!) and so it's more clustered than messy. So we're doing a purge. Unfortunately that means it gets messier before it gets cleaner and it's just depressing me. Fortunately hubby is off tomorrow and the munchkin goes to school so we should get done... I hope. Sigh. Well if I don't get it all done I'll just blame Emma- LOL! Having a destructive 4 y/o in the house can on occasion be convienient. Emma has been helping me some today, even if she's going behind me and undoing some too. I'll let you know later in the week how it went. Oh and did I mention school started back today? Fun right?

Okay, so I don't have anything new in the shop yet but I did revamp some old goodies you may not have grabbed. They are either my contribution to past team Mega kits (so check your files to see if you bought the MK) or they were my challenge incentive mini kits. They're all fabulous if I say so myself. The Mr. Fix-It one even comes with 2 Jumpstarts, so check them out in my shop! They are all priced to move (That's $3.50 or less, most are just $2!) so if you haven't got them yet go grab a couple! (My Favorite is the Tickets Please kit, but they're all good.)

I might need to make it a purple background with green and yellow words. We'll see. Still good for my first try.

A New Year Resolution

It's that time of year again for us all to make a New Year's resolution. This year I've been looking at my resolution from a different angle and I hope it'll help me keep it.

How often do we make our resolutions but don't follow through?
How often are our resolutions just about ourselves?

The Sunday School lesson I lead today we discussed Luke 3:7-18 and how to keep your resolutions. There is a wonderful lesson on this written by L.G. Parkhurst, Jr that I used to guide our discussion today (See it HERE if you want to know more.) but the two things that really stuck out at me were:

Bear fruits worthy of repentance. (Luke 3:8)
&
Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none, and whoever has food must do likewise. (Luke 3:11)

I used these two quotes to guide my resolution this year. Being worthy of repentance; to make my resolution this year not just about stopping a bad behavior or doing something small, but to make a big change. To replace a bad habit with something else, something good to help others. We all think about donating during the holiday season from Thanksgiving to Christmas but now January is almost here. Does that mean we stop giving? How many of us got a coat, jacket, sweater or sweatshirt for Christmas? Maybe a new hat or set of gloves? Are you going to donate an older one from your closet to someone in need?

I got both a new sweatshirt and a new jacket for Christmas and if I hadn't read this passage for Sunday school I would probably just crammed them into my closet with the rest of them. Instead I talked with my Sunday school class about starting now for our Church's Community Christmas supper next year. We gave those who came canned food this year to take away with them but no warm clothes after we fed them their supper. So we've decided that if we start now (collecting warm clothes, jackets, hats and gloves, maybe even blankets) that by next Christmas hopefully we'll be able to send everyone who comes to church home with something warm and lasting. We also resolved to try to bring in canned goods for the homeless shelter and the soup kitchen at least twice a month (we'd go for every week but we all forget sometimes and we need something to work for in 2010.). We're hoping that by resolving to do this as a class we can keep it going and help each other keep this resolution for the whole year, all while helping our community at the same time.

How wonderful would this world be if everyone took this bible quote to heart the world around. What a different place this would be to live. We're just talking about warm clothes and food for those who live in your community. Would you like to join me and my Sunday School class in our New Year's resolution? Remember those people are still in need even if the holiday season is wrapping up. Donate year round and not just when carols fill the air, to make this world a little better for everyone.

I also have to swing by the post office as my Daddoo forgot to take home my mom's stocking stuffers for my sister to wrap and stuff. (That's right I'm blaming him. I gave them to him and he said to give them to him againthe night before he left but I forgot. I'm still blaming him though, because it couldn't possible be my fault now could it?)

Hi everyone! The Christmas season is now in full swing! Are you ready? Do you have your shopping done? I just have to finish hubby's birthday (3 days after Christmas, darn man.) and I'll be done!
My favorite part of Christmas, beside the decorations and yummy goodies, are the Christmas carols. This year I'm very excited about Christmas as I'm teaching the adult Sunday School class this month and we're doing the very first Christmas carols found in Luke. Sung by Mary, Elizabeth, Zacharias, Simeon & the angels. These songs were sung about the Lord's birth before he was even born, the very first Christmas carols ever, how wonderful! But enough about that.

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend. We just had the three of us for turkey Thursday, but it was still yummy! Then Sun night for the first night of advent we went and made wreaths at church, had a spaghetti dinner and a hanging of the greens candlelight service. So pretty! The youth choirs sang beautifully including 4 of our young men did solos for each verse of We Three Kings, gorgeous with the rest of the choir joining on the chorus!

Now out in the DigiByDesign shop is our newest Team Tidbit kit Jolly Stocking! 12 fabulous mini kits that all coordinate together. Grab just one or grab them all! Right now they're on sale for just $0.98 each!!

And here's a little treat just for you! I made a neat little hybrid box using mine and Manu's Jolly Stocking Tidbits. I don't have a sample photo as all extra USB cords are tied up right now (I need to but a new one for the camera.) but I made it myself to try it out and it looks adorable. Emma stuck her letter to Santa in here and it will be "mailed" tomorrow. I think it's 6 inches tall and 2 across but don't quote me on that. It is made to just print on a 8.5x11 piece of cardstock.

Hi there everyone and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the US! It's been a busy week here. I've been slacking on my homework and trying to get a few things done at home and in the shop, plus Emma's been sick and had another dentist appt.

The Golden Rule

Today is Emma's 4th birthday! I'm sad that I didn't get a chance to finish a cool month long kit like last year. (I had started one but well you all know what happened there.) We already had her party so today's highlight was that she got to bring cupcakes to school, these ones we made to look like pumpkins since the lesson theme for the next 2 weeks is Thanksgiving.

So I should go to sleep but instead I wanted to see what popped up when I Googled my name. But not the site hits but under images. The coolest hing is if you do Amy Watson you see a ton of my designs used in layouts and some neat photos of a ballet dancer- LOL! And under Amy W. you see lots of the previews of my products along with more layouts you wonderful people have made. Just made me smile. Okay, I finished my homework and so now I'm off to bed. Oh and Emma's party was lovely. I'll post more about it later but we had cute little fairies and pirates running around all over the place! So much fun!

Hi there everybody! First off I'll give you a computer update, they have received the bad/wrong board and are issuing a refund- so that's good. However the right board is still on back order, sigh.
I have however hooked up my EHD to the laptop so I have access to some of my scrap stuff...just not PS. I can't find the disc so I can't install it on my new laptop either. I can find the PSP disc so I may just have to go back to that or find the elements disc that came with my tablet. Sigh.

3 days of Dell computer support and I'm ready to hurt someone. All I'm trying to do is exchange the mother board they sent me for a new one, but they make me go through technical support each time, then when they confirm I need to exchange the board they sent and I'm supposed to get connected to the right people their flipping automated phone system disconnects me. So I have to start all over again. Today I found a helpful guy at tech support who was like why are you back again? He made sure he talked to the guy at customer care for the exchange before he hung up with me, Thanks Marc! Then the very nice David helped me with placing the order for a new board... too bad they're on back order- ARGH! Not his fault, but I wonder if I had been connected on Monday if I could have still gotten one? Sigh. Then I got transfered to the guy to do my return and refund portion of the transaction, and no I didn't get hung up on. However, the stupid system that's supposed to give out the return numbers and give the shipping labels (prepaid) to email to me wasn't working so he was going to have to call his IT guy to see what was up and wanted me to call back later. ARGH! SO here I am 3 days later with no return number and an item on backorder. I think I might just have an Office Space moment with my computer. then again I want all my lovely scrapping stuff back so maybe not. But seriously people, you sent us a bad board, then the right one is on back order and you won't let me send this one back? WTF?!

Okay that was the very frustrated Amy vent on the Dell computer customer service. The people I talked to today (in the later half of my hour and a hlf phone call) were very nice. It's just frustrating that I had to go through so many loops and so many hang-ups to get there. Sigh. End result I still miss my computer. Yes, I know I probably could have gone to an actual repair guy and paid three times as much to get it done quickly, but what good is it being married to an electronics tech if we can't save a few bucks on computer repair I ask you. Just wish he had the inside track on refirbished Dell computer parts is all.

Halloween is almost here. We bought Emma a Buzz Lightyear costume at the Disney store when we were in California. Mind you she requested this over all the Princess, Mickey, Donald, Pooh and Pirate costumes in there. She has now consistantly wanted to change it but we keep telling her she picked it so she's stuck with it. Mind you I could easily make her a witch too sonce she has a pair of black and orang striped tights, a black skirt, a million black halloween shirts, a witches hat and even a orange and black broom from the dollar tree but I'm stickig to my guns. SHe picked it out, daddy shelled out the money and so it's what she's going to be. I just wish I had the $60 for the really sweet pirate costume I saw for me. I'm sick of rotating the same 3 costume every year, I want something new. Sadly I'm out of money after our vacation.

Thanks to everyone for their nice comments as I go through scrapping withdrawal. I do have a sketchbook full of doodles now, we'll see what they translate into once I have PS back! I especially got a kick over my big brother stopping by. Have a lovely week everyone!

Sorry, I'm still MIA

Thank you very much to everyone who's written to me and offered me some CU goodies! You all make me smile. It turns out that it's actually the motherboard in our old computer and not the hard drive. So once we get it up and running again I should get everything back. Whew! Sadly we had bought a new board but it was refurbished (and not done well) so it started off with a few faults, then a few more and then the whole thing crashed. Beyond what our original one did because the old one still turns on but gives us the failure codes where as the new one just cascaded into a snafu of deadness. So we'll be sending that one back (which is covered as it's been less than 10 days) but sadly I'm still without my desktop and all those wonderful files of mine. Or even my Phototshop, so no Halloween goodies yet or even the fall one I had almost finished. (Sigh.) All I've been doing really is homework. I''m not used to the laptop and don't know if I like it or not yet. I'll let you all know as soon as we're up and running again here in the Watson household but until then I'll probably be scarce as it just makes me sad to look at all these scrap goodies and such when I can't do them myself. (I miss my e-book collection too!)

On the upside I've caught up on some sewing and Emma's birthday party plans are coming together nicely. I found this really neat cupcake-cake that looks like a corcodile and since her party will be Peter Pan/Neverland (she couldn't decide between fairies and pirates) he can be Tick-Tock the crocodile. I know some people are down on the cupcake-cakes, and I have been of the few I've seen as well, but this one looks really cool. I like them if you can easily see the individual cupcakes and still look like a really cool larger cake. I don't like the ones where they just put overly frosted cupcakes really close together and decorate it like a normal cake (You can't see the individual cupcakes as the frosting all runs together.).

Oh and we went on the hayride at the pumpkin patch today with the MOMs club. I took some great shots but sadly have no clue where the cord is to upload from my camera. It's here somewhere I'm sure, when I find it I'll see what I can do for posting some vacation and pumpkin photos but without PS they'll be the raw shots so who knows how they'll look.

I'm kind-of back

Okay, so I'm back in NC from Cali. However, my computer decided to die this morning so I don't know how back I am exactly. Hubby went out and got me this sweet laptop so I can do my school work for the week (love the man!) but I don't have access to a good deal of my scrap stuff. A large portion is on my EHD but all my working stuff (new designs and resources) were on the hard drive that has kicked the bucket. Sigh. And no, I didn't back any of it up. So who knows if my 3 in prgroess kits will ever be seen again? All of my lovely designer resources (Overlays, actions, brushes, etc) may be gone for good. (Crying.) Okay, off to do homework I'll let you know if/when I get the design stuff up and running. Also haven't set up my email yet so if you need me send stuff to my gmail account (amywtsn@gmail.com). Hope you all are having a better day than I am.

On vaca!

Ok campers, we're off to visit my family in Cali for the next week so I'll more than likely be MIA. I was going to make you a little goodie to tide you over then my computer wouldn't start and I spent this morning trying to get it to work. I then gave up and my hubby fixed it in like ten minutes. (Rotten, so and so!) So it'll have to wait until I get back. And while I get back mid next week I'll probably spend the latter half of the week cramming in that week's school assignments as the new session starts Monday. So take care and I'll see you!

Oh and just to get you in the fall spirit, here's Emma at her Fall Family Night last night at her school.
That was the ring toss. Pre-schoolers got hula hoops, the bigger kids had to use diving rings on those giant stems. I think the gourd roll was my favorite booth.

Just so you know I've finished my latest set of classes, whew! And am off for a week! So only 2 more sessions left for my AABA! Next session is research and design solutions (Can't wait to see what that class is about.) and pshych, interesting combination I know.

Still haven't recieved any photos from the fair yet. But to be fair Kristen is stressing out because Kullan is once again in England visiting family with his dad. I can't imagine sending my child overseas with someone else. So pray for her sanity and his safe return this week (I think he comes back Wed. but don't quote me on that.).

Also this week is the Fall Family Night at Emma's school. I get to bake 2 cakes tomorrow, then go in the morning to set up the booth. Fun right?

Final Rock-a-bye Baby and the fair!

Hope you are all having a lovely time now that it's a new season. We went to the county fair this weekend. Emma had a blast, I of course forgot my camera so I'll have to wait for the other two moms to give them to me. Emma hurt her ear on the giant slide, she was tall enough to go down by herself and did very well until that last time. I think it's because she was getting grumpy and tired, we'd been there for 3 hours. So now her poor abused ear has a pretty bruise on it from bumping against the slide, but she was fine after a few minutes of crying to go on more rides. Fairs are so expensive now days. We got the wrist bands for the kids, they were $20, because tickets were $1 each and most rides were 3-4 tickets for our kids. Emma went down the big slide like 8 times and thru the fun house at least 12 times, that would have been very expensive. Sigh, maybe I'm just getting old. Emma had a blast, I may have to look and see which of the theme parks has rides she can go on here soon, although we're still looking into Disney next fall.

Here's the last installment of Rock-a-bye Baby. I had fun making it but my creative juice crashed. There are some dirty blond babies in this set because that was requested. I'll be packaging up the extras and giving them to my newsletter readers here in the next day or two, so keep an eye out for that email.

Going insane and a belated b-day pressent

So I'm officially going insane. You all repeatedly have said you don't know where I find the time, well I just ran out of it. The past week has been just one thing after the other. A jam packed schedule where EVERYTHING is taking longer than expected. Schoolwork, scrapping, making dinner, Emma going to bed or getting ready for school; it's all just taking forever it seems. Sigh. Luckily there's only 2 weeks left of both this class session and until Emma's school's Fall carnival thingy. That bad bay has become public enemy #1. I don't understand some of these people. The ones in charge are disorganized and lax, while the helpers are OCD and don;t believe me where I tell them I've taken care of something so we end up doubling up on stuff... annoying.
Oh well, I'll just slowly go insane.

The next installment of Rock-a-bye Baby is taking longer than expected. It's the requested footprints segment and I love the handful of elements I made but I'm not happy with the papers so you all are just going to have to wait for those until I get them right. Sorry, but I won't give you crap so I need to keep working on them. Luckily I had an idea this morning on how to fix them I just now need to find the time and with hubby off the next 2 days what computer time I get will probably be spent on school work. Again, sigh.

You may or may not have known but yesterday was Mrs. Miles' 50th birthday! I love this woman to pieces and want to be like her when I grow up, she's so fun and giving, a great wife and friend. I love you Barb! So while I'm a day late, you should all be used to that by now, I made her an adorable little pressie and I'm going to share it with all of you as well. So here's my b-day gift to Mrs. Miles!

So this week has been FILLED with stuff for Emma's school. Our Fall Carnival is at the end of the month (Early I know.) and as a grade parent that means I'm in charge of a bunch of stuff- blah! So I had a PTA meeting this week and organizing with the other preschool grade parents to work our game booth, get prizes, etc. Lots of fun.

I has an interesting comment on Monday's entry about my blog. This here blog will be 2 years old next month. Some of you may have followed it's progress where I was giving out practically a new freebie a day because my mind was bursting with ideas and I was learning my PSP program. Then came my list of freebie tips which I never have time for anymore, I miss freebie hunting... it's fun! I remember when Ikea Goddess used to make wonderful goodies rather than making her neat-o list, we should bug her to make more again. And when I had over 1000 people a day cruise through my blog to grab goodies or be pointed to more. Sigh. Now I barely have time to blog anymore and I miss it, but am glad to be designing and working on my degree so I can't really complain too much. There's my little stroll down memory lane. It did remind me I need to make a blog-iversary gift for you all next month. Any requests? I haven't done templates for awhile, would you all like one of those, or maybe a few?

So anyway I'm just popping in to give you the next installment of Rock-a-bye Baby for you all. Next set should be tags and footprints... I think. I need to get my homework for the week done before I work on this some more. Three stroller papers (pink, blue and green/yellow), with matching stickers and the un-charmed wrap frames. Enjoy!

More Rock-a-bye!

Okay, so I thought I'd have posted more of this kit before now but for some reason everything took longer than I thought this weekend. To illustrate my point my homework is due at midnight central on Sunday evenings, that's 1 am Monday for me. Usually I have the last of it in around late afternoon Sunday if I didn't get it in Saturday night. Last night I submitted my last piece of homework at 12:58.26am. Whew, talk about close. That was just the story of the latter half of my week, blucky.
Because of that I had lots of the Rock-a-bye Baby kit half done but not enough to give you more. However, this morning I completed 2 more installments of the kit... but you'll have to wait for part 3. Wahahahaha! I'm so evil! Anyway here's part 2 of Rock-a-bye Baby: the blocks, for you all to enjoy!

And here's how you use these nifty wrap frames. I made them to fit atop a square 6x6 inch (@ 300 dpi) photo, but you can resize smaller if needed. This is actually one without a charm (Can you say part 3?) that I recolored to match my Emma's hopscotch photo.
Cute right? Well, I think they're fabulous anyway. They'll look cute with a tag slipped underneath the bow too, I just haven't given you the tags yet- LOL!
Now if you have any requests for this kit feel free to shout them out, as it's a work in progress I can probably figure a way to fit them in. Someone already asked for footprints, I hadn't thought of that but I can make it work so they'll be coming here sometime in the future. Okay I'm off to grab Emma from pre-school, enjoy!

Rock-a-bye Baby

My best friend back in Cali just had a new baby boy a couple of weeks ago. I just got the first photos and he's gorgeous! So as a tribute to Baby Ben I'm making a new kit. Don't know how big it'll be just yet, depends on when my inspiration runs out I suppose. Here's the first part, 3 papers and 12 babies. The babies are mostly the same I just made them boy or girl and changed their skin tone and diaper color, they're big too so you can size them as needed. Hope you like it and make sure you check back for more installments.

A few things...

I've run into a few things in the past couple of days I wanted to share with you because they are just so neat!

First off is Trish Jones is retiring but for $19.99 you can buy her whole store! Yes, all of it! Kits, actions everything! But it's only for 3 days so get over there and be ready to download because you won't be seeing this stuff again.

Second is Kristin Aagard made this super cute kit called Swim Fishy, it's $3.00. But the best part is the alpha that comes with it! Click the link and scroll down to take a peek, it's adorable!!

Third is the Scrapbook Rewards Visa. It's sponsored by Creating Keepsakes and Shutterfly to name a couple. It has some great rewards like a free photo book and free fonts, pretty neat.

Fourth is the Curly Q Cuties, design your own monster site. I think this would be a great gift for any child who you don't know what to get. They even sell GC so they can truly design their own. I might just have to get one for Emma!

Fifth and lastly is the 'Eat This, Not That for Kids' book I just bought. It's fabulous! It's filled with pages of food swaps for just about every kind of resturant and fast food chain out there (Gives you the real skinny on "kids meals".). Also tips on getting kids to eat healthy at home, school or on the go. I loved looking at the comparisons it made between popular brand foods as well. Here check out their website if you want before getting the book (Has a "best for you" meal section for chain resturants and a menu decoder section.) but the book itself is well worth it and they have an adult book version too.
